The Product The Company develops Calcium Alginate beads as a matrix for slow release of pheromones. To the best of the Company's knowledge, PheroCap is currently the only company that develops microcapsules for pheromone applications that are both (i) spray-able and (ii) naturally degradable. The Company matrixes are composed of ingredients, which are all based on food and cosmetic grade and are already in use in these industries. The Company does not develop or synthesize new types of chemicals. Background The use of pheromones is considered the most effective, non-toxic method for pest control in agriculture. The most common use of pheromones as pesticides is using them for mating disruption.
The Need All existing mating disruption products suffer from one of the following drawbacks: A. Manual application – which is labor intensive and limits the use of pheromones B. Synthetic matrix, which doesn't dissolve naturally in the field There is a clear and growing need for a method of using pheromones for mating disruption in a mechanized manner and using a naturally degradable matrix.
The Market The company products are included in a market segment called semiochemicals and pheromones. This market size of this segment is estimated to reach 200 million US dollars in 2008. The Company estimates that the mating disruption pheromones sub-segment represents approximately 75% of the total semiochemicals market, and will total $150M by 2008.
