Company profile

Nehora photonics  Ltd. is a  medical device company developing an innovative    technology that allows non-invasive continuous monitoring of hematocrit, based on an optical technology. The company is managed by leading experts in the area of Bio-physics and Bio-medical engineering.

The need

Hematocrit represents the proportion of the blood that consists of packed red blood cells and gives an indication of the body’s hemodynamic.

Low hematocrit is referred to as being anemic; Common reasons for anemia are loss of blood (traumatic injury, surgery, bleeding colon cancer), Nutritional deficiency (iron, vitamin B12, folate) and a variety of clinical reasons (cancer, blood diseases). High hematocrit arises from mostly from dehydration.

With the technology currently available on the market, Hematocrit is evaluated by invasive measurements which do not enable continuous monitoring.

Determining the concentration of analytes in blood or tissue, without taking out a sample or inserting any instrumentation into the human body, has several advantages that include ease of performing the test, reduced pain and discomfort to the patient, and decreased exposure to potential biohazards.

Though it is well established that optical properties of blood are directly  affected by the Hct value, a truly noninvasive, continuous  and affordable monitoring device has yet become available as a standard of care. The likely reasons include the complicated nature of data collection, unavailability of necessary instrumentation, and inaccuracy/repeatability issues of existing technologies.

Nehora Photonics solution

A low cost portable device for continuous monitoring of hematocrit;   A minimally sized disposable sensor attached to the digit or other area on the hand that can be combined with pulse oximetry in one device. The device is based on the company’s patented optic based technology.

Market potential

Nehora Photonics new technology addresses hospital internal wards, ICUs (Intensive Care Units) and operating units, clinics and blood and plasma donation centers. There is also potential use in home health care and in field applications such as military and emergency care.
